I Don’t Want to Be a Tech Lead Anymore
Struggling as a Tech Lead at first is part of the process, it's natural and expected.
"I don’t want to be a Tech Lead anymore!
I want to go back to being a Software Engineer!"
These were my words in a 1:1 with my boss after six months of being a Tech Lead.
I was overwhelmed.
I was frustrated.
I felt like I wasn’t cut out for it.
If you’ve had the same thought—or maybe you’ve even acted on it—you’re not alone.
I’ve been there, and I know plenty of other Tech Leads who have, too.
What I didn’t realise at the time was that this was a reaction.
Running away it's the easiest way out in the moment.
It looks like is going to solve all your problem.
And for a short while, it might.
If you’re in that place right now, take a breath.
You’re doing better than you think.
You’re not supposed to know everything.
I believe in you.
